Kyllian Griffin became head coach of Macalester's men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs in the fall of 2018. He spent the previous four years as the head swim and dive coach and aquatics director at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Ill.

During Griffin’s time at IIT, his athletes broke 13 school records, won 10 Liberal Arts Conference individual championships, received 38 All-Championship honors and posted four NCAA-qualifying B standard performances. He was also responsible for managing the college’s aquatics facility.

Prior to coaching at IIT, Griffin was an assistant coach at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., for two years. He also spent two years as an assistant coach at Lawrence University, as well as one year as an assistant at Beloit College.

A 2009 graduate of Lawrence, Griffin was a captain and two-time Midwest Conference champion for the Vikings’ swim team. An English major at Lawrence, Griffin went on to earn a Master’s of Education degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington in 2013.

“I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to join the community at Macalester College,” Griffin said. “The swimming and diving program has strong traditions and great potential, and I am very excited to begin building and growing the team for the future. The student-athletes at Mac are passionate and driven, and I look forward to working alongside them to have the best academic and athletic experiences possible."
