Athletes can have resumes viewed by Mac grads
Macalester student-athletes will again have an opportunity to have their resumes viewed by former athletes at Macalester. For the fourth year in a row, a partnership between the Department of Athletics, the Career Development Center (CDC) and the M Club is putting together an electronic resume book for Mac athletes.

Lee & Yamashita to represent Mac at NCAA SAAC Development Conference
Macalester is pleased to announce that the NCAA has selected two student-athletes to attend the 2009 National Student-Athlete Development Conference. They are Stephanie Lee from women's tennis and Jeff Yamashita from men’s swimming and diving.  The 2009 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference will take place May 24 to 27 in Orlando, Florida, at the Walt Disney World Coronado Spring Resort.

SAAC Hosts annual Career Night March 5
On Thursday night (March 5), Macalester’s SAAC hosted the annual Career Night with Mac Athletic Alumni. Once again, this annual event was a big success and Macalester athletes are appreciative of the advise they received.

Saturday, Feb. 7 is SAAC's Pink Zone at Leonard Center

On Saturday (Feb. 7) the Macalester Student Advisory Committee (SAAC) and M Club are hosting Pink Zone during the women and men's basketball games against Augsburg College and men's tennis match against Martin Luther College. This is also "Bring a Kid to the Game Day." Read More>>

SAAC raises money and food for Second Harvest Food Shelf

Macalester’s SAAC sponsored Hoops for Hunger Day last Saturday (Jan. 31) and raised money and food for the Second Harvest Food Shelf. Fans at last Saturday’s basketball doubleheader between Macalester and St. Thomas donated over 100 pounds of food and $160 in cash. Read More>>



Major Macalester SAAC events for Spring Semester 2009:

Jan. 31st - Hoops for Hunger: fundraiser to raise awareness about at the men and women's basketball games against St. Thomas

Feb. 7th - Pink Zone: fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Week at the men and women's basketball games against Augsburg

Thursday, March 5th - Alumni - Student-Athlete Career night: a dinner for alums and student athletes to facilitate networking and to give students an idea of what they can expect after graduation; this event will be for upperclassmen (juniors and seniors)

Monday, April 6th - National Student Athlete Day: a day to recognize student athletes and encourage student body interest in athletics; in the past we have given-out t-shirts to all student athletes, organized a bbq and a kickball game on Bateman Plaza; home softball game against Carleton (4:00¬ pm).

March 22nd-28th - Testicular Cancer Awareness Week: SAAC is teaming-up with Health and Wellness to promote awareness for Testicular Cancer. On Saturday, March 28th a dodgeball tournament will be held as an accumulation of the week.

April 13th - 17th - Team Meetings with Nutritionist: during this week there will be two scheduled meetings with a nutritionist who will focus on pre-competition nutrition. We hope to get as many athletes as possible to attend. There will also be a meeting for the coaches. This is funded by a grant from the NCAA.

May - End of the Year Sports Banquet: SAAC and the athletic department coordinate this event to recognize and celebrate sports achievements throughout the year. In the past, SAAC has helped to set-up this event as well as prepare a slide show and coordinate awards given to student-athletes.


Marie Godwin
Marie Godwin represents Mac and the MIAC at NCAA Convention
Macalester volleyball player Marie Godwin, a junior from Chaska, Minnesota, is the representative from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), and last week (Jan. 14-17) attended the annual NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C., before beginning a study-abroad program in Denmark.

Godwin, a three-year letter-winner for the Scots, serves on the NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the NCAA Committee on Sportsmanship and & Ethical Conduct. Godwin is the former Macalester SAAC president.

“She was amazing at the way she carried herself,” said Godwin. “She has such a bright personality and caught the attention of all the delegates. She has really been a continuing inspiration for female athletes, not only in the first Title IX generation, but to mine as well.”
