Scottie Award Winners presented

As part of the annual Macalester athletic department awards banquet, Mac's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) presented its SAAC Awards for the 2008-09 sports year. Award winners (along with nomination sentences) are:

Underclass athlete of the year - This award is for the underclass student-athlete that showed extra effort and/or achievement on his/her team.

Emma Swinford (Track and Field)
Emma never ceases to amaze me at her dedication to the team. As a first year she has shown no timidity in working hard and persevering in challenging races. It is always exciting to watch her race as she strategically races her heart out.

Unsung Hero of the year - This award is for the student-athlete that was never recognized for their on-field performance, but was a huge part of the team for their spirit, leadership, commitment to the team and positive attitude.

Tyson Morgan (Men's Basketball)
The hardest worker on the team, and always gave the team a boost when he went in.

Performance of the year - This award is for that one performance that defines the 2008-2009 athletic year at Mac. It could be for an individual or a team.

MACALESTER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM
The most wins since the middle '90s and also, the most wins since coach Thompson has been head coach.

Most memorable moment of the year - This award is for a special moment in Mac athletics for the 2008-2009 athletic year.

MACALESTER FOOTBALL TEAM
Overtime win vs. St. Scholastica for the 2008 Homecoming game

Mac the Scot Award - This award is for the student-athlete that embodies the spirit of the Mac athletics, that one team member that always goes above and beyond for the team on and off the field.

Seth McIntire (Swimming and Diving)
Seth is an all around nice guy who cheers on fellow Mac athlete in his sport, Swimming and Diving, but also attends many other events to cheer on other teams. Seth was the team captain for Swimming and Diving for the last two years and consistently brought enthusiasm and team spirit. I can't think of anyone that embodies the spirit of Mac athletics more and I can't imagine my time on the team without him.
