Macalester is hosting the Roger Ahlman Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 21) at the Riley Pool in the Leonard Center. Diving starts at 9 .m. and swimming events begin at 1 p.m. Participating teams, in addition to the Scots, are Augsburg, Concordia, Hamline, St. Catherine, St. Thomas and St. Olaf (divers only). 11.18 | Women's Basketball
Macalester tips off its fifth season under head coach Ellen Thompson this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 20-21) with a pair of games in Walla Walla, Washington, as Whitman College hosts the Kim Evanger Raney Classic. The Scots open the campaign Friday at 6 p.m. (Pacific time) against host-Whitman and on Saturday at 2 p.m. take on Whitworth (Wash.). Click here for live stats of Mac's games.  The Scots play their home opener next Tuesday (Nov. 24) against Wisconsin-River Falls.

Macalester won its first game under new head coach Tim Whittle, jumping out to a 39-22 halftime lead and going on to beat Crown 77-60 at the Leonard Center in the season-opener for both teams. The Scots shot 47% from the floor, including 9-for-21 on three-pointers, and received points from 12 different players.  Colin Keely posted a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, to lead the way for Macalester. Jerry Kraus just missed a double-double of his own, finishing with 11 points and nine boards.

11.16 | Men's Soccer
Nate Juergens ’11 and Scott Petesch ’10 play on the powerhouse men’s soccer team, which this year has taken Mac to the NCAA championship playoffs. Both men are also biology majors—and friends—who have done cutting-edge research in molecular genetics.  Their research involves identifying species by sequencing the DNA, long bits of four-letter genetic code. Using DNA sequences rather than morphology (form and structure) to describe species is called DNA barcoding. Read the story here
