ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College senior linebacker Jason Weaver (Roselle Park, N.J./Pingry) was selected the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 6, the conference announced today. Weaver led the Scots in tackles and had a key turnover in Macalester's 34-21 victory at Martin Luther College in the season opener on Saturday.

Weaver led the Scots with 13 solo tackles, including two tackles-for-loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. In the first quarter and with the game tied at 7-7, he strip-sacked the quarterback and recovered the fumble on the Knights' 11-yard line. The Scots were able to turn that play into a touchdown and a 13-7 lead midway through the first quarter.

Last season, Weaver ranked second on the team with 53 tackles. He was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week and made the D3football.com National Team of the Week after registering a sack, a forced fumble, an interception and five tackles in Macalester's 27-6 win over St. Olaf on Nov. 2.

Macalester returns to action on Sept. 19, when the Scots host Carleton in the home and MIAC opener. The battle for the Book of Knowledge begins at 7:00 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
