Men’s Soccer: Macalester Moves to Fourth in Regional Rankings

| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team moved up one spot from last week to fourth in the latest Region IX rankings by the United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced today. The Scots won their only game last week, a 1-0 victory over Hamline University on Saturday.

Macalester improved to 3-1-3 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC, getting a goal by sophomore midfielder Milan Shah (Chicago, Ill./Francis W. Parker) in the 74th minute. It was the second game in a row that Shah has broken a scoreless tie in the second half, as he tallied the game's first goal in the 84th minute of the Scots' 2-0 win at St. Scholastica on Sept. 19. Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Ratner (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) made five saves for the shutout against Hamline.

St. Olaf repeats as No.1 in the national and Region IX polls this week. Saint John's jumps to second, followed by UW-Eau Claire, Macalester and Gustavus. Loras enters the poll at No. 6, with Luther moving down a spot to seventh and Grinnell debuting at No. 8.

Macalester plays two regionally-ranked teams this week in Gustavus and Saint John's. The Scots host the Gusties on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The Johnnies will host Macalester on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4:20 p.m. in Collegeville, Minn.
