ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team beat Hamline, 1-0, in a Saturday afternoon game at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The victory improves the Scots' overall record to 4-4 while moving to 2-1 in conference play. The Pipers drop to 4-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the MIAC.
After turning the ball over from a Hamline player in the 27th minute, sophomore
Lindsay Edmonson (North Kingstown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) passed to junior forward
Erica Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter). Hamilton collected the ball and fired a shot into the right side of the goal for a 1-0 lead. The score marked the only shot on goal for either team in the first half, which ended 1-0 in favor of Macalester.
Macalester's momentum through the second half resulted in 14 shots, compared to three for Hamline. Hamline's goalkeeping was strong, though, saving all nine of Macalester's on-goal shots. There was no more scoring in the second half, leading to a final score of 1-0. Across both halves, the Scots outshot the Pipers, 17-4.
Junior goalkeeper
Lily Salazar (Oakland, Calif./Bentley Upper School) played the first half and senior
Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./ Urban School of San Francisco) played the second half, but neither was required to make a save. Sharis Garcia stopped eight shots for the Pipers.
Up next for Macalester is a MIAC duel against Gustavus, to be held at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
