ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team lost to UW-Eau Claire, 3-1 in a non-conference match Wednesday night at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The Scots are now 3-4 overall on the season, while the Blugolds improve to 4-2-1.
After a scoreless first half, UW-Eau Claire scored twice in a span of 3:27 for a 2-0 advantage. Olivia Lukrafka Varassin scored in the 50th minute, followed by a goal from Emma Donovan in the 53rd minute. Lukrafka Varassin added another goal in the 61st minute for a commanding 3-0 lead.
Macalester got on the scoreboard in the 66th minute, when senior forward
Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./ Minnetonka) chased down an errant pass and put a shot over the goalkeeper. Nhouyvanisvong remained dangerous, sending a shot just high in the 73rd minute, hitting the cross bar in the 75th minute, and putting a shot on goal that was saved by Bella Jones in the 78th minute. But the Blugolds kept the Scots from scoring again and closed out the win.

Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) played the first half and made four saves, and junior goalkeeper
Lily Salazar (Oakland, Calif./Bentley Upper School) played the second half. UW-Eau Claire held a slight 10-7 edge in shots taken but put eight shots on frame compared to three for the Scots.
Macalester returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 with a home game against Hamline. The MIAC match starts at 12:30 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
