DULUTH, Minn. – In its second conference match of the season, a high-tempo performance by Macalester women's soccer brought the team its second win of the season. The Scots traveled to Duluth to take on St. Scholastica Saints, netting three goals to claim victory, 3-1. Macalester improves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Saints drop to 3-4, 0-2 MIAC.
Macalester made noise early. In the 21st minute, sophomore forward
Mikayla Edmunds (Falls Church, Va./Georgetown Visitation) sent the ball to sophomore midfielder
Nisha Wetter (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century). Wetter sailed it to the back of the net for the first goal of her Macalester career, putting the Scots up early. Wetter took another chance a minute later after the Saints received a yellow card, but it went high. The Scots weren't quiet for long, in the 26th minute sophomore midfielder
Evelyn Savoie (Northbridge, Mass./Marianopolis Preparatory School) took the Saints by storm as she drove the ball for a second goal, putting Mac up 2-0.
St. Scholastica goalkeeper Chloe Patrick kept Macalester scoreless for the rest of the half, but her squad wouldn't find success before the break. The Scots kept the heat on high, as Edmunds found the back of the net with an unassisted goal in the 61st minute. In the 69th minute, the Saints would get on the board with a goal, but that's the only offense Macalester allowed on the day.
Macalester ran the game, outshooting the Saints 21-10 with 14 shots on goal to the Saints' five. Senior forward
Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) led the team with three shots on goal, and four Scots tallied two shots on frame each: sophomores Wetter,
Lindsay Edmonson (North Kingstown, R.I. LaSalle Academy) and Edmunds, as well as junior
Erica Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter). Senior goalkeepers
Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) and
Ramatoulaye Bah (Paris, France/United World College Maastricht), and junior goalkeeper
Lily Salazar (Oakland, Calif./Bentley Upper School), shared goalkeeping duties and each ended with one save.
The Scots' next game will be on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd. Macalester hosts UW-Eau Claire at 7:30 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
