DULUTH, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team beat the College of St. Scholastica 2-0 on Saturday at Kenny Harkins Field in Duluth, Minn. The game was the Scots' MIAC opener, with the win improving Macalester's record to 2-1-3 for the season. The Saints drop to 2-4.
The first half of the game was scoreless, with Macalester registering four shots, edging out St. Scholastica's three. Both teams had one shot on goal and one save in the first half.
The game's second half similarly started off slow, with no scoring until the 84th minute, when sophomore midfielder
Milan Shah (Chicago, Ill./Francis W. Parker) bumped the ball past the goalkeeper off a right-side corner kick from senior midfielder
Kasdan Blattman (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine).
Two minutes later, after Blattman headed the ball over defenders for the Saints, first year forward
John Albright (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) scored with a right-footed shot from 35 yards out that escaped over goalkeeper Afonso Silva. That goal concluded the shooting from both sides, and the game ended with a final score of 2-0.
Senior goalkeeper
Drew Moseman (St. Paul, Minn./Central) played the entire game for Macalester, registering six total saves to earn the shutout. Macalester also outshot St. Scholastica, registering 15 shots over the Saints' nine.
Next on Macalester's schedule is a conference matchup against Hamline University at home on Saturday, Sept. 26. The game will start at 3:00 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
