ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team began the 2026-27 season early with a 7-0 victory over Concordia College in a MIAC dual Saturday afternoon at Hayden Tennis Courts.
The Scots earned the doubles point by taking all three matches. Sophomores
Derek Chen (South Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown School) and
Charles Flaman (Calgary, Alberta/Rundle College) won 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 2 doubles team of senior
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) and junior
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), and the No. 3 tandem of first years
Alexander Coleman (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) and
Eric Yang (Satellite Beach, Fla./Westshore) won their matches by the same score of 6-2.
In singles, Flaman, Chen, Li, Coleman and sophomore
Zac Regelman (Weston, Mass./Weston) were victorious in straight sets at first, second, third, fourth and sixth singles. Annes prevailed in his match in a tie-breaker, 6-4, 2-6m 1-0 (10-2).
Macalester will play at Saint Mary's University in another MIAC dual on Sunday, Sept. 13. The first matches begin at 2:30 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
