SARTELL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team dropped a MIAC dual to the College of Saint Benedict, 6-1 Thursday afternoon at Sta-Fit. The dual was originally scheduled to be played at Macalester but was moved indoors to avoid the inclement weather. The Scots are now 9-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play, while the Bennies improve to 6-7, 4-4 MIAC.
Saint Benedict won all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Senior Sedona Crosby (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and first year Isabella Tamburrino (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School) came close to winning at No. 2 doubles but ultimately fell, 7-5.
Macalester earned its only point of the dual at No. 1 singles, where senior Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) handed Ellie Huber a 6-2, 6-2 defeat. First year Darrian Streater (Redmond, Ore./Redmond Proficiency Academy) went to a tie-breaker at No. 3 singles against Allyson Yahn before losing, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5).
The Scots wrap up the regular season with a MIAC dual at St. Scholastica on Sunday, April 26. The first matches start at 1:00 p.m. in Duluth, Minn.
