ST. PAUL, Minn. – Averaging 1.3 goals per game this season before tonight, the Macalester College women's soccer team posted its highest goal total in its last 27 games with a 5-0 victory over Concordia College in a MIAC game Wednesday evening at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The win moves the Scots to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the conference to tie the Cobbers, who fall to 5-6-1, 4-3 MIAC.
The offensive outburst started just 2:15 after kickoff, when sophomore forward
Lindsay Edmonson (North Kingstown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) stole the ball on the left side and passed it to sophomore forward
Mikayla Edmunds (Falls Church, Va./Georgetown Visitation), who hit a one-timer into the back of the goal. Edmunds was able to return the favor in the 11th minute, setting up Edmonson's goal from eight yards out for a 2-0 lead.
The score remained 2-0 Scots into the second half. In the 56th minute, Edmonson dribbled down the right side and centered the ball that was cleared by a defender, but it went right to senior midfielder
Gabriela Carrillo-Quinones (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park). Carrillo-Quinones, who has been limited to 12 career games due to injury, buried a shot from 18 yards out for her first career goal.
Macalester wasn't done yet, as Edmonson sent a through ball in the 66th minute that sprung Edmunds in behind the defense. Edmunds dribbled around Cobber goalkeeper Julia Rourke and scored into the open net. Edmunds now has a team-leading five goals and 12 points, while Edmonson leads the Scots with five assists. In the 86th minute, Macalester closed out the scoring on a long ball from senior defender
Miya Whiteley (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) into the Concordia penalty area that found senior forward
Avery Ellis (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech), who tipped it just inside the left post for a 5-0 lead.
The five goals are the most for Macalester since a 5-0 victory over Bethel in the fourth game of the 2025 season.
The Scots took 30 shots and put 16 on frame while holding the Cobbers to four shots overall and three on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) registered three saves to earn the shutout. Rourke made seven saves and Hailey Anderson-Tibiatowski had four saves for Concordia.
Macalester hosts St. Olaf College in a key MIAC game on Saturday, Oct. 17. The match starts at 1:00 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
