ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of 2025 at the hands of Simpson College, 1-0 in a non-conference match Friday night at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The Scots drop to 2-1 on the season, while the Storm, who were 15-3-3 and made the NCAA Tournament a year ago, improve to 2-0-1.
In the 74th minute, an errant clearance of a bouncing ball ended up at the feet of Ally Hoffa about 15 yards out from the goal. Hoffa placed a shot from the left side just inside the right post for the game's only goal. Macalester pressed for the equalizer and earned a corner kick in the 83rd minute but were unable to generate a quality scoring chance.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Lily Salazar (Oakland, Calif./Bentley Upper School) registered four saves in goal for the Scots, as Simpson held a slight 6-5 edge in shots for the game. First years
Nisha Wetter (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) and
Lilly Staples (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) had the two shots on goal for Macalester, with Storm goalkeeper Meredith Downs making both saves.
The Scots host Bethel University in a non-conference match on Thursday, Sept. 11, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
