Women’s Soccer: Scots Erupt for Eight Goals at Crown

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team found the net eight times in an 8-0 victory at Crown College in a non-conference game Wednesday evening at Old Bank National Stadium. The win gives the Scots a 2-0 record on the season, while the Polars fall to 0-2.

The eight-goal outburst is the highest goal total for the Scots since a 9-0 victory over Lawrence during the 2016 season.

Junior forward Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Junior forward Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass./Weston) dribbled into the left corner and played it back to Nhouyvanisvong, who launched a shot from 20 yards out into the upper right corner of the goal. Just over nine minutes before halftime, sophomore forward Erica Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Shaylee O'Grady (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) to give the Scots a 2-0 lead at the half.

Two minutes after the break, Hamilton found the net again after a long pass from Nhouyvanisvong to make the score 3-0. First years Lindsay Edmonson (North Kingstown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) and Lilly Staples (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) connected in the 51st minute, with Edmonson tallying her first collegiate goal. In the 60th minute, Edmonson's shot was saved by Crown goalkeeper Rachel Fuller, only to have first year forward Mikayla Edmunds (Falls Church, Va./Georgetown Visitation) knock in the rebound for a 5-0 lead.

Then in the 63rd minute, Edmunds set up first year midfielder Evelyn Savoie (Northbridge, Mass./Marianopolis Preparatory School) for her first goal as a Scot. Savoie then finished a rebound off a shot by junior midfielder Annelise McGee (Stonington, Conn./Stonington) for her second goal of the game. McGee completed the scoring spree with a goal off an assist from O'Grady in the 76th minute.

Macalester outshot the Polars 30-0, with Fuller registering 10 saves in the loss. The Scots, who won their season opener, 1-0 on Friday against Carthage, have yet to allow a goal this season.

Next up for Macalester is a non-conference match at home against Simpson on Friday, Sept. 5. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
