Women’s Soccer: Macalester Drops MIAC Match to Carleton

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team fell to Carleton College, 3-0 in a MIAC match Saturday afternoon at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The Scots are now 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference, while the Knights improve to 6-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the MIAC.

Carleton took an early lead on a goal by Lauren Caldwell in the fourth minute. The score remained 1-0 until two minutes after halftime, when Lola Feurer found the net for a 2-0 advantage. Eight minutes later, Kathryn Kresse scored her sixth goal of the season to put the Knights ahead, 3-0. Macalester's best scoring chance came in the 70th minute, when junior forward Annelise McGee (Stonington, Conn./Stonington) sprung free for a breakaway. But Carleton goalkeeper Avery Trapp came off her line and made the save to keep the Scots off the scoreboard.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lily Salazar (Oakland, Calif./Bentley Upper School) started and made seven saves in 62 minutes. Junior goalkeeper Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) played the final 28 minutes in goal. Trapp finished with four saves, as the Knights held a 17-6 edge in shots taken.

Macalester continues MIAC play with a road game at Saint Mary's University on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The match starts at 7:00 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
