WINONA, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team battled Saint Mary's University on the road and came away with a 1-1 tie in a MIAC game Wednesday night at Ochrymowycz Field. The Scots are now 3-5-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play, while the Cardinals are 8-2-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in the MIAC.

Evelyn Savoie (Northbridge, Mass./Marianopolis Preparatory School) blasted a free kick from just outside the penalty area that was punched out by Saint Mary's goalkeeper Anna Peckosh. In the 73rd minute, Lauren Skoruppa got in behind the defense for a shot that was stopped by Scots' junior goalkeeper
Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco), then Heuga saved a shot by Hannah Bradley a minute later.
With nine minutes left in the game, a ball sent into the Saint Mary's penalty area was deflected by first year forward

Ella Wu-Ancipink (Los Angeles, Calif./Polytechnic School), who fired the ball into the goal from eight yards out for a 1-0 lead. In the 84th minute, a foul was called on a Macalester player just inside the penalty area. Skoruppa converted the ensuing penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1 with 6:33 to play. Heuga was required to make one last save down the stretch, as the game ended in a draw.
Heuga finished with eight saves, as Saint Mary's held an 18-8 advantage in shots taken. Peckosh registered three saves for the Cardinals.
Macalester hosts Augsburg on Saturday, Oct. 4 in another MIAC match. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
