ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team opened the 2025 season with a 1-0 victory over Carthage College in a non-conference match Friday evening at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The Scots have won four consecutive season openers and are 4-0-1 over the past five years.
After a scoreless first half, Macalester threatened in the 60th minute. Junior midfielder
Georgia LeWin-Mills (St. Paul, Minn./Breck School) received a pass from first year
Nisha Wetter (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) from the right side and dribbled towards the middle of the field, where she unleased a shot from 27 yards out that tucked just inside the left post. The goal is LeWin-Mills second of her career, capping a series of chances for the Scots. Macalester controlled play the rest of the game, although sophomore goalkeeper
Lily Salazar (Oakland, Calif./Bentley Upper School) made a pair of saves after the goal to preserve the victory.
Salazar totaled four saves, including a stop against Emma Amberg on a breakaway in the first half, to record the shutout, her first clean sheet of her career. The Scots held a 9-5 advantage in shots, with Ainsley Stallworth making two saves in goal for the Firebirds.
Macalester returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Crown College. The non-league game starts at 7:15 p.m. in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
