ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team had five student-athletes recognized with year-end awards from the MIAC, the conference announced today. Seniors Sophie Futchko (Prince Frederick, Md./Huntingtown) and Renee Nicholson (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and sophomores Tess Bojorquez (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) and Martha Miller (Medford, Wis./Medford) were named to the All-MIAC team, while first year Ally Wolf (Valencia, Calif./Valencia) received All-MIAC honorable mention. Additionally, Bojorquez and Miller both were selected to the All-Playoff Team.

Macalester, coached by Jody Gabriel, had four All-MIAC honorees for the first time in the program's history after going 27-15 this spring to set a school record for wins in a season. The Scots also won a game in the MIAC Playoffs and advanced to the semifinals for the first time.

Futchko is the first Macalester softball player and the 29th player in the history of the conference to make the All-MIAC Team four times. This season she batted .368 with 46 hits, 34 runs, 14 doubles, four triples, three home runs and 29 runs batted in to rank third in the MIAC in triples, fourth in runs and doubles, seventh in RBIs, ninth in hits and 15th in batting average and home runs. Her slugging percentage of .616 ranked sixth in the conference. Futchko had 14 multi-hit games and drove in four or more runs three times, including a five-RBI game against St. Scholastica on May 3 in which she doubled and homered. In 159 career games, Futchko registered 167 hits, 116 runs, 39 doubles, eight triples, five homers, 34 stolen bases and 75 RBIs while batting .355. Her 116 runs are one shy of the school record, and she ranks sixth all-time at Macalester in hits and stolen bases, seventh in career batting average, fourth in doubles, second in triples and seventh in RBIs.

A three-time All-MIAC honoree, Nicholson was named to the NFCA All-Region third team last week after batting .398 with 47 hits and 34 runs to rank sixth in the MIAC in batting average and fourth in runs. She also stole 19 bases in 23 attempts, giving her 51 stolen bases in her career to rank third all-time at Macalester. In her final regular-season doubleheader, Nicholson went 4-for-7 with two runs in a sweep on St. Scholastica on May 3. She also had a pair of hits in her final game as a Scot in a loss to Saint Mary's in the semifinals of the MIAC Playoffs. Nicholson finishes her 155-game career with 174 hits and 109 runs, ranking third all-time at Macalester in both categories. Her career batting average of .386 ranks fifth on the Scots' all-time list.

Also an All-Region selection this spring, Bojorquez was effective in the circle and at the plate for the Scots, ranking fourth in the MIAC with 35 runs batted in while posting the seventh-lowest earned run average (2.54) in the conference. Bojorquez went 10-5 while starting 13 games, striking out 60 batters while walking 26 in 91 innings this season. She also pitched three shutouts, including 7-inning shutouts against Carleton and Gustavus. At the plate, Bojorquez batted .328 with 40 hits, 17 runs, 10 doubles and two homers along with 35 RBIs. In an 8-inning win over St. Olaf on April 27, she delivered a walk-off single that scored the game-winning run and clinched a spot in the MIAC Playoffs. Bojorquez also went 3-for-3 with a run, a double and four RBIs in a 10-2 win over Bethel in the first round of the MIAC Playoffs.

A transfer from UW-Green Bay, Miller made an immediate impact in her first year as a Scot. In a team-leading 23 appearances, including 21 starts, she went 12-7 with an ERA of 3.09 to rank fifth in the MIAC in wins and 12th in ERA. In 99 2/3 innings, Miller struck out 74 batters, seventh-best in the MIAC, while walking 34. Opposing batters hit .230 against her, the third-lowest batting average allowed among MIAC pitchers. The highlight of her season was tossing a perfect game with eight strikeouts in a 5-inning, 9-0 victory over St. Scholastica on May 3. Miller earned the win in the MIAC Playoffs victory over Bethel, limiting the Royals to two runs on six hits over five innings in a 10-2 win.

Wolf emerged as a significant contributor for the Scots at the plate and in the field at third base. She batted .333 with 11 runs, 28 hits and 16 RBIs over 37 games that included 31 starts. Twenty-three of her hits came against MIAC competition, including a 3-for-7 day in a sweep against Carleton April 12 that saw Wolf hit her first collegiate home run. She also went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in the playoff win over Bethel.

St. Olaf's Medora Rylee was named the MIAC Player of the Year, while Makayla Steffes of Saint Mary's was selected the Pitcher of the Year. Lily Treml of Saint Benedict was chosen the Rookie of the Year, with John Tschida of Saint Mary's receiving his 15th MIAC Coach of the Year honor.
