ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College baseball team racked up 24 runs on 20 hits to beat the University of Northwestern, 24-10 in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Nicholson Field. The win gives the Scots a 10-19 record on the season, while the Eagles fall to 14-16.
Macalester spotted Northwestern a 5-0 lead after the top of the first inning before putting 10 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Senior

Holden Peacock (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid School) and junior
Josh Planko (Northville, Mich./Northville) had RBI doubles, and sophomore
Isaiah Ramirez (Houston, Texas/Northbrook) drove in a run in the inning.
The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the second to make the score 10-7 before Munoz singled home Gumagay for an 11-7 edge. In the bottom of the third, Gumagay and junior
Tristan Jones (Fairfield, Conn./Greens Farms Academy) drew bases-loaded walks and Lander came home on a wild pitch to give the Scots a 14-7 lead. With the score 14-8 Macalester heading to the bottom of the fifth. The Scots put the game out of reach with nine runs on seven hits to pull ahead, 23-8. Juniors
Niko Alexander (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and
Evan Kang (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Village Christian) registered two-run hits, while Munoz notched his fifth double in two games to drive in Gumagay. Peacock had two RBIs in two at bats, while Jones and sophomore
Ben Oberdorfer (Jacksonville, Fla./Paxon School) also had RBIs in the inning.
Northwestern scored two runs on one hit in the top of the sixth, and first year
Haruto Mizuno (Irving, Texas/Ranchview) singled home junior
Brennan Murley (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 24-10. First year pitcher
Elliott Rowley (South Pasadena, Calif./Polytechnic School) pitched a scoreless seventh to close out the win for the Scots. Rowley didn't give up a hit, striking out three and walking two in 1 1/3 innings of work. Sophomore
Josh Schmidt (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young Magnet) earned the win, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking one in four innings.
Peacock went 3-for-5 with two runs, a double and three RBIs, while Munoz was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and four RBIs, giving him five doubles and nine RBIs in his last two games. Junior
Stephen Paulsen (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) also went 3-for-3, while Gumagay and Jones had two hits apiece.
Macalester returns to MIAC action on Wednesday, April 23 with a doubleheader at St. Olaf. The first game begins at 2:30 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
