NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team fell to Carleton College, 9-0 in a MIAC dual Saturday afternoon at Pat Lamb Tennis Courts. The Scots are now 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference, while the Knights improve to 13-2, 5-0 MIAC.
Two of the three doubles matches went to tie-breakers, with Carleton winning both. Seniors
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) lost at No. 1 doubles to Jack Rivkin and Akshay Garapati, 8-7 (8-6), and sophomore
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) and first year
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) fell to Ezra Bernhard and Aiden Patel, 8-7 (9-7) at No. 3 doubles.
The Knights won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Li battled Garapati before losing in a 10-point tie-breaker, 6-2, 1-6, 10-2.
Macalester hosts St. Scholastica on Sunday, April 13 in another MIAC dual. The Scots will recognize their seniors as a part of Senior Day before the first matches, which are scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
