SARTELL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team played its first MIAC dual since Mar. 7, facing the College of Saint Benedict on Sunday at Sta-Fit. The Scots had success at the top of the lineup but ultimately fell, 6-3 to drop to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the conference. The Bennies improve to 4-5, 1-2 MIAC.
Saint Ben's took two of the three doubles matches, with juniors
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) defeating Sophia Jonas and Kate Perbix, 8-5 at No. 1 doubles for Macalester's first point. In singles play, Trevathan topped Jonas, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and Haugen beat Ella Marohl at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. First year
Greta Laurel (River Falls, Wis./Hudson) battled Perbix at sixth singles but fell in a 10-point tie-breaker, 6-0, 3-6, 10-5.
Macalester will face Hamline on the road on Sunday, April 6 in a MIAC dual.
