SARTELL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team came up short in a MIAC dual against Saint John's University, falling 6-3 Sunday at Sta-Fit. The Scots are now 7-5 overall and 2-2 in league play, while the Johnnies improve to 5-5, 1-2 MIAC.
Two of the three doubles matches went to a tie-breaker. Macalester's No. 1 doubles tandem of seniors
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) came out on top, 8-7 (7-2) against Cooper Anderson and Ryan Will, while the Johnnies' Alex Draeger and Sam Wolden edged seniors
Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School), 8-7 (7-1). Saint John's won the match at No. 2 doubles to lead 2-1.
In singles, the Scots earned wins at first and sixth singles, as Sargent beat Will in three sets and first year
Zach Dajani (Singapore/Singapore American School) defeated Josh Peterson, 7-6 (8-6) 7-5 for his first collegiate victory. The Johnnies picked up straight-set wins at second, fourth and fifth singles, and Anderson outlasted Lynch at third singles, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8.
Next up for Macalester is another MIAC dual on April 8 at Hamline University.
