ST. PAUL, Minn. – Four Macalester College women's basketball players were recognized by the College Sports Communicators with Academic All-District honors, the organization announced today. Seniors
Katherine Norquist (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton College Prep),
Nicole Norton (Brussels, Wis./Southern Door) and
Peyton Starks (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School), and sophomore
Kendall Bernbaum (Dallas, Texas/Shelton School) were included on the Academic All-District Team.
This is the third straight year on the Academic All-District Team for Norquist, who received All-MIAC honorable mention for the third consecutive season. An excellent all-around player, she averaged career highs of 11.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.2 blocks per game this season. Norquist, who is majoring in creative writing and American studies, finished with 957 points and 619 rebounds to rank 13th and ninth all-time at Macalester.
A psychology and educational studies major, Norton earned Academic All-District honors last year. This season she played in 23 games with 17 starts, averaging 3.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest. Also a member of the volleyball team, Norton earned Academic All-District honors in the fall as well.
Starks also makes her third appearance on the Academic All-District Team after being named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Year earlier this month. A three-time All-MIAC selection and two-time All-Region honoree, Starks averaged 18.6 points per game this season to lead the MIAC in scoring for the third consecutive year. A neuroscience major, she completed her career with 1,652 points and 639 rebounds to rank second and eighth all-time at Macalester.
Bernbaum overcame injuries that sidelined her for the entire 2023-24 campaign to play in 24 games this season. An excellent outside shooter, she made 38.7 percent (24-of-62) from three-point range while averaging 3.4 points per game. Bernbaum is majoring in biology.
Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and play in 90 percent or start 66 percent of the team's games to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
