HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Macalester College men's tennis team won three singles matches in 10-point tie-breakers to defeat the College of Wooster, 4-3 Tuesday at Van Der Meer Tennis Center. The win is the first of the spring trip for the Scots, who are now 6-3 on the season.
Macalester earned the doubles point with wins at second and third doubles. Seniors
Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, and first year
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and sophomore
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) won at No. 3 doubles, 6-1.
Wooster won the matches at first and second singles, with the final four singles matches going to 10-point tie-breakers. Senior
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) dropped the first set to Ian Royse at No. 3 singles, 6-1 before battling back to win, 6-0, 10-8. Lindstrom outlasted Bennett Dickerson at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 1-6, 13-11, while Wooster won at No. 6 singles to tie the dual at 3-3. The last match to finish was at No. 4 singles, as Li fought back to win, 3-6, 6-4, 10-2 to clinch the dual for Macalester.
Macalester concludes its spring trip with a non-conference dual against Indiana University Southeast on Thursday, Mar. 20 at 9:30 a.m. Eastern in Blufton, S.C.
