BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Macalester College men's tennis team kicked off its spring trip with a non-conference dual at NAIA school Coastal Georgia on Saturday. The Scots battled but ultimately fell, 7-0 to drop to 5-3 on the season.
In doubles, Macalester's No. 1 duo of seniors
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) played well and came away with a 6-3 victory over Max Kirmayr and Leonardo Ciriaci. The Mariners (3-8) won at No. 2 doubles, then took a close match at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) and first year
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) lost to Gonzala Tano and Caspar Grylls, 7-5, as Coastal Georgia took the doubles point.
In singles, the Mariners were able to win all six matches, although Sargent almost prevented the sweep, losing to Ciraci at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 3-6, 7-6.
Macalester continues its spring trip with a non-league dual against Indiana University Southeast on Monday, Mar. 17 at Van Der Meer Tennis Center in Hilton Head, S.C.
