WINONA, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team were defeated by Saint Mary's University, Minn. on Saturday in an away MIAC fixture by a score of 9-0. The Scots' overall record falls to 2-3, with an even 1-1 in conference play.
In the No. 1 doubles, juniors
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) took the match to tiebreaker before falling to the Cardinal's Alli Laux and Elena Ruzevich.
Megan Twomey (Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) and
Mary Jacobson (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell-Newburg) also played a close match in No. 2 doubles, losing 6-8 to Emily Henderson and Emily Dondelinger.
Sedona Crosby (St. Paul, Minn./ Highland Park) and
Greta Laurel (River Falls, Wis./ Hudson) were defeated in the No. 3 doubles, 2-8, by Harsha Gangasani and Olivia Molumby.
In the singles, Haugen played a marathon match against Henderson, eventually dropping the tiebreaker in a 3-6, 6-1, 11-13 match. Trevathan lost No. 1 singles to Laux, 4-6, 4-6; Twomey dropped No. 3 to Ruzevich, 0-6, 0-6; Crosby lost to Dondelinger, 1-6, 2-6; Cox fell to Jones, 3-6, 3-6; and Jacobson lost to Stiegel, 3-6, 4-6.
The Scots will face St. Catherine University on Friday, March 7 in Minneapolis, Minn. at the Baseline Tennis Center.
