Softball: Scots take down Luther, shut out by UW-La Crosse

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team took on two non-conference opponents on Saturday in the Rochester Dome, splitting the games 1-1 for the day. The Scots record is now 4-2, going into a two week break in games.

In the first game of the day, Macalester beat Luther College by a score of 4-1 behind a three-run home run off the bat of Tess Bojorquez (San Clemente, Calif./ San Clemente) in the bottom of the 4th. The Scots offensive came alive in the 4th inning after recording no baserunners in the first three, with two walks and an error setting up Bojorquez's big moment. Her nine RBIs in six games leads the team. Elizabeth Welch (Carol Stream, Ill./ Glenbard North) also had a strong day at the plate, reaching base twice on a walk and scoring a run.

Sophomore Rileigh Morlock (Lincoln, Ill./ Normal Community West) started the game and earned the win (1-0), hurling five scoreless innings and seven strikeouts. Inheriting three baserunners in the fifth, Paige Schultz (Hamilton, N.J./ Steinert) kept the Norse offense to just one run in two innings to finish out the win.

Later in the day against UW-La Crosse, Macalester was shut out 9-0 in five innings. The Eagles started hot in the 1st inning, putting six runs across the plate on four hits and two errors. The Scots threatened in the 3rd inning, as Callia Holland (Akron, Ohio/ Hawken) made it to third after a leadoff walk, but couldn't make her way home. Schultz followed up her strong pitching performance against Luther with 2.1 scoreless innings to keep the Scots fighting.

The Scots next head south in two weeks to begin their Florida trip on Mar. 15.
