WINONA, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team kept their winning season rolling with a 9-0 at Saint Mary's University, Minn. on Saturday, their second straight shutout win. In the decisive victory, every Scots athlete recorded their singles win in a perfect two sets. Their overall record now stands at 5-1 and 2-0 in conference.
Macalester's doubles teams started the day off strong with three straight wins, including a No. 1 doubles win, 8-6, by seniors
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century). Seniors
Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) handled the #2 doubles with ease, 8-4, and the #3 doubles was won 8-3 by
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu).
In singles, Sargent won first singles over Evan Huemoeller, 6-3, 6-0; Wood took second singles against Gavin Pratt, 6-0, 6-3, to clinch the Macalester victory; Lynch defeated Philip Apel in third singles, 6-3, 6-4; Li won at fourth singles over Tucker Stene, 6-1, 6-0; Lindstrom beat Zak Farley, 6-2, 6-4; and Annes defeated Michael Johnson, 6-2, 6-0.
Macalester will face Luther College on Mar. 8 at a neutral site in Rochester, Minn. before beginning their spring trip.
