Women’s Tennis: Macalester Falls to UW-Stevens Point in Non-Conference Dual

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team battled UW-Stevens Point but ultimately fell, 5-2 in a non-conference dual Saturday night at Baseline Tennis Center. The Scots are now 1-2 overall on the season, while the Pointers improve to 8-6.

The Scots' doubles tandem of juniors Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) blanked Tristin Jantz and Jordan Scharf at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, but UW-Stevens Point won close matches at second and third doubles to take the doubles point. First years Berkeley Cox (Sandpoint, Idaho/Sandpoint) and Greta Laurel (River Falls, Wis./Hudson) played well but lost at No. 3 doubles, 7-5.

In singles, Trevathan beat Jantz, 6-0, 6-3 at first singles, and Haugen outlasted Brooklynn Steier, 5-7, 6-4, 10-2 at second singles for Macalester's two points. The Pointers were able to win the final four singles matches in straight sets to take the dual, 5-2.

Macalester plays another non-conference dual next Saturday, Feb. 15 against the University of Northwestern. The first matches begin at 1:00 p.m. at Baseline Tennis Center.
