MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team won all nine contested matches to defeat the University of Northwestern, 7-0 in a non-conference dual Saturday night at Baseline Tennis Center. The win gives the Scots a record of 4-1 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 0-3.
In doubles, seniors
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) won their match at No. 1 singles over Carson Haack and Griffen Jarchow, 6-3. Seniors
Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) were victorious at No. 2 doubles against Sam Majerus and Isaac Thomforde, 6-2, and first year
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) combined with sophomore
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) to win at No. 3 doubles, 6-0 over Ian Barber and Caleb Swigart.
In singles, Sargent beat Haack at first singles, 6-2, 6-1; Wood topped Jarchow, 6-1, 6-0; Lynch defeated Thomforde, 6-3, 6-2; Li won at fourth singles over Majerus, 6-2, 6-2; Lindstrom beat Swigart, 6-1, 6-1; and Annes defeated Caleb Jergenson, 6-2, 6-3.
Macalester takes on Saint Mary's University, Minn. on Mar. 1 in a MIAC dual in Winona, Minn.
