ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2025 season with a 7-0 defeat to UC-Santa Cruz Friday night at Gustavus. The Scots are now 3-1 on the season, while the Banana Slugs improve to 2-0.
Macalester lost all three doubles matches to surrender the doubles point. The Banana Slugs were able to sweep the six singles matches in straight sets to win the dual. Senior
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) fought hard in his match at No. 1 singles before falling, 6-4, 6-4 to Radin Sadeghi. Senior
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) also played well but ultimately fell, 6-4, 6-2 to the Banana Slugs' Hari Raghavan at No. 3 singles.
Next up for the Scots is another non-league dual against the University of Northwestern on Saturday, Feb. 15. The first matches begin at 4:00 p.m. at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
