MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team lost a non-conference dual to UW-Superior, 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Baseline Tennis Center. The match was the first of 2025 for the Scots, who are now 1-1 overall on the season. The Yellowjackets improve to 5-1.
In non-conference duals this season, one point will be awarded to the team that wins the majority of the doubles matches. Macalester's No. 1 doubles team of juniors
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) defeated Anouk Bluemm and Elif Oezen, 6-2. The other two doubles matches were won by UW-Superior, giving the Yellowjackets the doubles point.
In singles, Haugen and Trevathan were both victorious. Trevathan beat Bluemm, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Haugen topped Oezen, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. UW-Superior was able to take the dual by winning the remaining singles matches for a 5-2 victory.
Macalester returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 8 with a non-conference dual against UW-Stevens Point. The first matches begin at 7:30 p.m. at Baseline Tennis Center.
