ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team earned the No. 2 seed and a bye to the semifinals of the MIAC Playoffs. The Scots will host fourth-seeded Gustavus on Thursday, Nov. 6 at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium, with the game starting at 4:30 p.m.
In the other semifinal match, top-seeded St. Olaf hosts sixth-seeded Saint John's at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Northfield. The semifinal winners will meet on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the highest remaining seed.
This is the 11th consecutive appearance in the MIAC Playoffs for Macalester, which posted an overall record of 13-4 and a conference mark of 8-2 to secure second place. Last Friday, the Scots clinched their position with a 5-1 win over Bethel in the regular season finale. Senior midfielder

Kasdan Blattman (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine) had two goals and an assist in the lopsided win. So far this season, Maina leads Macalester with six goals and eight assists for 20 points to rank fifth in the MIAC in assists and 11th in points. Blattman also has eight assists to go with four goals, while junior forward
Zach Liptzin (Denver, Colo./Northfield) and first year midfielder
Milan Shah (Chicago, Ill./Francis W. Parker) each have six goals.
In 15 appearances in the MIAC Playoffs, which began in 2003, the Scots are 11-13-1, including a 6-5 record in the semifinals and a 7-5 record in home playoff games. Macalester won the MIAC Playoff title in 2009.
Gustavus (14-4-1, 6-3-1 MIAC) advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 win over fifth-seeded Bethel on Monday in St. Peter. The Gusties are led by Joe Flory, who ranks third in the MIAC with 14 goals, and Kieran Mahan, who is seventh in the league with 11 goals. Both scored goals in Monday's win over the Royals. In the Scots' regular season meeting at Gustavus on Oct. 18, Liptzin scored 87 seconds after kickoff and in the 84th minute to lead Macalester to a 3-0 victory. First year midfielder
Gaven Johnson (Harrison, Ohio/William Henry Harrison) also scored in the win, which ended a six-game losing streak to the Gusties.
