Women’s Soccer: Macalester Draws with Concordia on the Road, 1-1

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Concordia College in a MIAC game Tuesday afternoon at Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex. The Scots are now 4-6-2 overall and 1-4-2 in the conference, while the Cobbers are 0-7-5, 0-5-2 MIAC.

In the 19th minute, Macalester got on the scoreboard when junior midfielder Georgia LeWin-Mills (St. Paul, Minn./Breck School) received a throw in from senior midfielder Miya Whiteley (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) on the left side of the field. She then dribbled towards the middle through defenders and hit a bomb from 18 yards out on the left into the right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.  It was LeWin-Mills' third goal in the past two games.

The Scots stayed on top until the 58th minute, when Kara Ellis scored off assists from Hannah Mukhtar and Emma Sheflo to tie the score at 1-1. Macalester continued to press for the go-ahead goal, taking six shots over the final 32 minutes, but was unable to regain the lead.

Junior goalkeeper Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) registered two saves in goal for the Scots, who held a 15-10 advantage in shots taken. Concordia's Julia Roark made five saves for the Cobbers.

Macalester takes on Gustavus on the road on Saturday, Oct. 18 for another MIAC game. The kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
