Women’s Soccer: Scots Come up Short at Redlands to Conclude California Trip

LA VERNE, Calif. – The Macalester College women's soccer team played its second of two games in California on Sunday, losing to University of Redlands, 2-0 at La Verne University's Ortmayer Stadium. The Scots, who faced No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer on Friday, are now 2-2 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 2-0-1.

The first half remained scoreless, with sophomore midfielders Gabriela Carrillo-Quinones (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and Georgia LeWin-Mills (St. Paul, Minn./Breck School) putting shots on goal and senior goalkeeper Ashlyn Ryan (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside School) making three saves over the first 45 minutes. Less than five minutes into the second half, Redlands found the net for the first goal of the game and a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs continued to control play, taking six shots on goal over the next 28 minutes. Then in the 81st minute, Redlands added an insurance goal to put the game out of reach.

First year forward Erica Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter) and sophomore defender Ella Wu-Ancipink (Los Angeles, Calif./Polytechnic School) each placed shots on goal for the Scots in the second half, as the Bulldogs held a 29-7 advantage in shots taken for the game. Ryan finished with a career-high eight saves for Macalester, while Shannon Stewart made four saves for Redlands.

The game was played at La Verne due to fires in Redlands, Calif.

The Scots play at Lawrence University on Saturday, Sept. 14. The non-conference game begins at 5:30 p.m. in Appleton, Wis.
