Women’s Soccer: Scots Edged by Concordia, 2-1

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team suffered its first MIAC defeat with a 2-1 loss to Concordia College Saturday afternoon at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The Scots are now 3-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. The Cobbers improve to 6-2, 2-1 MIAC.

Just 15 seconds into the game, sophomore forward Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass./Weston) took a pass from first year midfielder Reese Preston (Los Altos, Calif./Summit Prep) down the right side and scored from 15 yards out for a quick 1-0 lead. Hanson now has four goals on the season.

Concordia pulled even in the 18th minute, as Amber Weiybe scored from 20 yards out. Then in the 31st minute, Reese Christ took advantage of a deflected pass back to Macalester first year goalkeeper Lily Salazar (Oakland, Calif./Bentley Upper School) and pushed the ball over the goal line for a 2-1 lead. Macalester put two shots on goal in the second half and outshot the Cobbers, 4-3 after halftime but was unable to net the equalizer.

Sophomore goalkeeper Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) started and one save before leaving the game in the 30th minute. Salazer registered one save in 60 minutes. The Scots took nine shots in the game compared to 10 for Concordia.
