ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester men's tennis team defeats the St. Olaf Oles for a second time this week, this time 5-1 in the MIAC Playoff Quarterfinals. The Scots advance to the semifinals of the playoffs later this week.
Macalester started off with two doubles wins. Juniors
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) and L
iam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) defeated their opponent 8-6 at first doubles. Slated at No. 2 doubles, juniors
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) won 8-3. The Oles took the point at No. 3 doubles in a very close 8-7 (7-5 tiebreaker) match.
Lynch downed his opponent 6-2, 6-3 at fifth singles. First year
Kevin Mortimer posted the same scores as Lynch, taking the point at fourth singles. At No. 6 singles, senior
Lewis Jolly (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) took down his opponent 6-1, 6-3. Due to playing to decision, the first, second, and third singles matches were unfinished because Macalester earned five points.
The Scots move on to the semifinals of the MIAC Playoffs on Friday May 3. Macalester will head to St. Peter to face No. 1 Gustavus at 3:30 pm.
