ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team held its first match at Hayden Courts this evening, welcoming the Cardinals of Saint Mary's to town. The Scots dominated the match, and won 8-1. Macalester is now 8-3 (3-1 MIAC).
At first singles, senior
Sydney Ellison (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park) took the first set 6-0. In the second set, it was close, but she came out on top 7-6 (7-1) to take the point. Fellow seniors
Amanye Reynolds (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) and
Meg Ulrich (Carlisle, PA./Carlisle) won at second (6-3, 6-4) and third (6-2, 6-2) singles respectively. Slated at No. 4 singles sophomore
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) earned the point, only giving up one game (6-0, 6-1). Fellow sophomore
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) defeated her opponent at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-2. The Cardinals took the point at sixth singles.
Ellison and Ulrich combined at No. 1 doubles to win 8-4. Reynolds and Haugen edged out their opponents, 8-6, at second doubles. The third doubles point went to Trevathan and junior
Megan Twomey (Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn), with a score of 8-5.
Macalester's next match will be Saturday April 13. The Scots host Carleton for another MIAC contest at Baseline Tennis Center, in Minneapolis, Minn. The match will start at 2:00 pm.
