OWATONNA, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team defeated St. Olaf 6-3 in the regular season finale today, 6-3. This win secures the No. 4 seed in the MIAC Playoffs which begin this week. Macalester's regular season ends 11-6, 6-4 MIAC.
The Scots secured all three doubles points. At first doubles, seniors
Meg Ulrich (Carlisle, PA./Carlisle) and
Sydney Ellison (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park) edged out their opponents 8-6. Slated at No. 2 doubles, sophomores
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) blew past their opponents, 8-4. Senior
Amanye Reynolds (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) and junior
Megan Twomey (Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) won 8-5 at third doubles.
Haugen earned the point at fifth singles 6-2, 6-3. Ellison nabbed the point at No. 1 singles, edging out her opponent 7-6 (8-6 tiebreaker) in the first set and then winning 6-4 in the second set. At No. 6 singles, Twomey battled back and won her match in three sets (4-6, 7-6 (8-6 tiebreaker), 1-0 (11-9 tiebreaker). The Oles won the points at second, third, and fourth singles.
Macalester hosts the No. 5 seed St. Catherine on Tuesday April 30 at 3:30 pm at Hayden Courts.
