ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester men's tennis team hosted the Johnnies of Saint John's this morning at Hayden Courts. The Scots won the match, 6-3, and improve to 7-7, 4-2 MIAC.
Slated at No. 1 doubles, juniors
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) and
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) took down their opponents, 8-4. The Johnnies earned the points at second and third doubles.
At No. 1 singles, Sargent defeated his opponent in a three-set battle, (6-2, 6-7 (7-5 tiebreaker), 1-0 (11-9)). Fellow junior
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) also had a three-set match, winning the point, 6-7 (7-9 tiebreaker), 6-2, 1-0 (10-5). Slated at No. 2 singles, junior
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) won 6-3, 6-2. First year
Kevin Mortimer beat his opponent 6-3, 6-4 at fifth singles. The Scots' final point came at No. 6 singles, where first year
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) won 6-4, 7-6 (9-7 tiebreaker). Saint John's took the point at third singles.
Today, the Scots honored senior
Lewis Jolly (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) as part of Senior Day. The Scots return eight to the court next year.
Macalester's next match will be Wednesday April 17. The Scots host Bethel at Hayden Courts. The match will start at 4:30 pm.
