BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team began the 2024 season tonight with a match against UW-Superior. The Scots battled, but fell to the Yellow Jackets 7-2.
Junior
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) won his match at No. 4 singles in a three-set match (6-3, 0-6, 14-12). First year
Kevin Mortimer won at No. 6 singles 7-5, 6-4. Junior
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) and senior
Lewis Jolly (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) each had close three-set battles at first and fifth singles respectively. However, the Yellow Jackets took those points as well as the points at second and third singles.
The Yellow Jackets also took the points in all three doubles matches. The Scots came close in the No. 3 doubles match as juniors
Maxwell Davis (Warwick, Pa./Stone Independent School) and
Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) fell 8-7 (7-3 tiebreaker).
Macalester's next match will be Saturday Feb 17. The Scots open MIAC play against Hamline at 5:00 p.m. at Lifetime Eden Prairie Athletic in Eden Prairie, Minn.
