EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team opened MIAC play today and competed against Hamline. In a tough battle, the Scots edged out Hamline and came out on top 5-4. Macalester is now 2-1, 1-0 MIAC. Hamline is now 4-3, 0-3 MIAC.
The Scots won at both first and third doubles. Juniors
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) took victory at No. 1 doubles 8-6. First year
Kevin Mortimer and junior
Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) cruised to an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles. Hamline took the point at No. 2 doubles.
Doi and Mortimer also won their singles matches. Doi breezed to a win at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-4. At sixth singles, Mortimer won 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7 tiebreaker). Slated at fifth singles, senior
Lewis Jolly (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) won 6-3, 6-0. The Pipers took the points at first, third, and fourth singles.
Macalester's next match will be Sunday Feb 18. The Scots play Grinnell at Rogers Tennis Club in Rogers, Minn. The match begins at 12:30 p.m.
