ROGERS, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team took on Grinnell this afternoon in a non-conference match. It was a tough day for the Scots, falling 8-1. The Scots are now 2-2 (1-0 MIAC) while Grinnell is 6-2.
First year
Kevin Mortimer secured the Scots' lone point today at sixth singles. Mortimer won in two sets, 7-6, 6-3. Slated at No. 1 singles, junior
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) came close to a first set win, but fell 7-5, before falling 6-2 in the second match. However, the Pioneers came out strong at second, third, fourth, and fifth singles, stealing the points from the Scots.
At. No. 1 doubles juniors
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) put up a strong fight, falling 8-5. Meanwhile Macalester was swept at No. 2 doubles and fell 8-3 at third doubles.
Macalester's next match will be Saturday Feb 24. The Scots play Luther at Rochester Tennis Connection in Rochester, Minn. The match will begin at 5:30 p.m.
