Women’s Basketball: Starks, Norquist Earn MIAC Honors

PAUL, Minn. – Junior guard/forwards Peyton Starks (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School) and Katherine Norquist (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton College Prep) received recognition from the MIAC today, as the conference announced the year-end awards for women's basketball. Starks was named to the All-MIAC team, while Norquist received All-MIAC Honorable Mention.

This is the second All-MIAC honor Starks, who led the Scots and the conference in scoring the last two seasons. This season, Starks averaged 18.4 points per game to lead the conference. The next highest average points per game in the conference was 14.8. Starks also led the conference in free throw percentage (0.891). She registered her 1,000th career point on Jan. 20 against St. Scholastica, becoming the eleventh Scot women's basketball player to do so. She finished the season with 1,186 points and currently ranks 8th on Macalester's all-time scoring list in 76 games.

Norquist received her second All-MIAC Honorable Mention recognition this season, after earning the same honor last year. She proved an important playmaker for the team, dishing out a team leading, 65 assists, ranking 10th in the MIAC. Norquist co-led the Scots with Starks in blocks this year (21), where they ranked eighth in the MIAC. In the 67-60 victory over Saint Mary's on Feb 3, she totaled a season high 15 points. In 74 games, Norquist currently has 673 points.

Concordia's Carlee Sieben was named MIAC Offensive Player of the Year while Emma Kniefel of Gustavus was named MIAC Defensive Player of the Year and Hattie Fox of St. Catherine was named Rookie of the Year. Don Mulhern of St. Catherine was named MIAC Coach of the Year.
