ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team took on the Norse of Luther College today. In a tight battle, the Scots were able to pull out the win 5-4. Macalester is now 2-1, while Luther is 8-2 (8-0 ARC).
Senior
Sydney Ellison (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park) and sophomore
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) paired at No. 1 doubles and cruised past their opponents 8-2. However, the Norse were able to grab the points at second and third doubles.
Ellison won an intense battle at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7 tiebreaker). Senior
Amanye Reynolds (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) breezed to a 6-3, 6-0 win at second singles. At third singles, senior and
Meg Ulrich (Carlisle, PA./Carlisle) fought for the point and earned it in a three-set match (6-7 (10-12 tiebreaker), 6-4, 1-0 (10-5 tiebreaker)). Trevathan won at fourth singles in three sets as well. She dropped the first set 7-5, but won the next 6-2 and the third 1-0 (10-3 tiebreaker). The Norse grabbed the points at fifth and sixth singles.
Macalester's next match will be Friday March 1. The Scots open conference play against St. Catherine at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
