ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the second week in a row, Macalester College senior guard
Peyton Starks (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School) was selected the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 17, the league announced today. Starks averaged 25.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in two victories last week.
In a 69-61 win over Martin Luther College in the Scots' home opener on Tuesday, Starks registered 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Then on Saturday at UW-Superior, she poured in 32 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the field and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Macalester to a 64-62 win on the road. The performance was two points shy of her career high of 34 points, set her sophomore year at St. Olaf on Feb. 8, 2023. For the week, Starks shot 45.9 percent (17-of-37) from the field and made all 15 of her free throw attempts to help the Scots extend their winning streak to three.
So far this season, Starks is averaging 23.8 points per game to lead the MIAC. She also ranks second in rebounding (9.5 rebounds per game) and third in free throw percentage (.846). A two-time All-MIAC selection, Starks has led the conference in scoring in each of the last two seasons. She currently has 1,281 career points to rank fifth all-time at Macalester.
The Scots (3-1) play a non-conference game at Buena Vista University on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in Storm Lake, Iowa.
