DULUTH, Minn. – Senior forward
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) scored the game's only goal to lift the Macalester College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the College of St. Scholastica in a MIAC game Saturday afternoon at Kenny Harkins Field. With the win, the Scots are now 10-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Saints fall to 3-10-1 on the season and 1-4 in the MIAC.
Macalester took eight shots and put four on frame in the first half, but neither team was able to score in the first 45 minutes. Then in the 68th minute, senior forward
Grant Luce (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) headed the ball on to Haenicke about 40 yards out. Haenicke charged towards the goal, dribbling between defenders, and shot the ball under Saints' goalkeeper Ben Hallberg for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Haenicke's team-leading 11th of the season and fifth in his last four games. He now ranks fifth all-time at Macalester with 34 career goals.
Senior goalkeeper
Sam Price (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) made the lead stand, making two saves over the final 22 minutes. Price tallied five saves in the game to earn his seventh shutout of the season. The Scots held a 19-11 advantage in shots and put nine shots on goal compared to five for the Saints.
Macalester hosts Carleton in a key MIAC match-up on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
