Men’s Soccer: Scots Earn Tie Against Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Macalester men's soccer team traveled back to Iowa again this evening, this time stopping in Waverly to take on the Wartburg Knights. Despite going down early, the Scots fought their way back to walk away with a tie. Macalester remains undefeated with a record of 2-0-2.

The Knights took the lead in the second minute, getting an early goal against the Scots. Macalester battled back afterwards, with junior Grant Luce (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) forcing a save from the Wartburg goalkeeper in the seventh minute. First year Cody Da (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery), junior Alexis Bromberg (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn), and first year Zach Liptzin (Denver, Colo./Northfield) also had shots saved.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Macalester came back out fighting. In the 54th minute, the Scots earned a penalty kick, which sophomore Nick Kent (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) blasted into the back of the net to tie the game. It was a close battle between the teams, and despite the Scots forward efforts, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Macalester's next game will be Sunday Sept 10 at 3:00 p.m. The Scots will host Luther at Macalester Stadium.
