ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester men's soccer team hosted University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire this evening at Macalester Stadium. The Scots put forth a strong effort, with junior goalkeeper
Sam Price (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) making fantastic saves, to battle to a 0-0 tie.
Price made three important saves in the first half, including a BluGold header from near the six-yard box. The Scots worked tirelessly to keep UW-Eau Claire at bay, while also creating some offense up top. First year
Kasdan Blattman (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine) also squeaked one past the keeper in the 17
th minute and then forced another save by the UW-Eau Claire keeper just before halftime.
The second half saw both teams battling for control, pressing to create chances. First year
Cody Da (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) had his shot to the top of the net saved in the 53
rd minute. Macalester's defenders, seniors
Zade Alafranji (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento Waldorf School) and
Sam Menicke (Whitefish, Mont./Whitefish), junior
Alexis Bromberg (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn), and sophomores
Nick Kent (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) and
Alex Beck-Ruiz (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) each played a critical role in preserving the tie, along with Price, who made another three important saves in the half. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Macalester's next game will be Friday Sept 8 at 7:30 p.m. The Scots travel to Waverly, Iowa and take on the Knights of Wartburg College.
